Experience The Buzz
NO. 79 -- DANIELLE VIGLIONE | Sacramento Skills Academy ๐
DANIELLE VIGLIONE is the best Female Basketball Player from Sacramento that I have ever seen. The Michigan native moved to California and by her 8th grade year, she was being recruited by close to 100 schools. She shined at Del Campo High School, smashing scoring and three-point records in 1992 and 1993. From there, Viglione settled in at the University of Texas under the direction of Hall of Fame Coach Jody Conradt. 98 starts were highlighted by a school record 48 points as a freshman. She finished as the top three-point scorer in school history. And what if I told you, I have just scratched the surface with Danielle. There is so much more.
In today's episode of Experience the Buzz, Host Steve Buzzard sits back and enjoys the incredible journey of Danielle "Basketball is certainly our focus. Believe it or not, the highlight of Danielle's story comes when she was injured for the first time in her career. It set her up for everything she is and has done in her life since that point." Our conversation hits three areas:
- SEGMENT 1 โน๐ผโโ๏ธ gets the ball rolling with Danielle's childhood and her love for competition and the game of basketball. We talk about her high school coach Paul Romig and find out Danielle's recipe for becoming a great 3-point shooter.
- SEGMENT 2 โน๐ผโโ๏ธ focuses on Danielle's recruitment and time at the University of Texas. We talk about that 48-point game and her relationship with Hall of Fame Coach Jody Conradt. From Texas, Danielle shares with us life as a professional including playing for her home team in the first year of the WNBA. How cool is that?
- SEGMENT 3 โน๐ผโโ๏ธ looks at Danielle's life after basketball ... as a player. She shares the story behind her retirement and then gives us a peek into her current endeavors that include the Sacramento Skills Academy, Play 4 Him, and her position as a facilitator with a newly-formed Women's League called Athletes Unlimited. We finish with her induction into the Sacramento Sports Hall of Fame in 2015 and the Texas Ring of Honor in 2019.
Our Connection | I had the opportunity to cover Danielle when she was a Senior at Del Campo High School. I was doing work for the Neighbors section of the Sacramento Bee and was the host of the Prep Page on Sports 1140 KHTK.
